Response mail from a viewer

Hello,

How about raising funds to help preserve the nature, ecology and environment of Kalakad? Why waste so much money in building or renovating temples?

Why is this society so becoming degenerated? Tiger and other species population are declining. You have people razing trees in the western ghats. How about allocating money to raise awareness of these impending issues and do something about it?

I suggest reading Collapse of the Societies by Jared Diamond for understanding of the primary reasons why societies decline. It is not because of not failing to construct temples. It is because of failing to recognize the real problems (environmental, ecology and resource constraints).

I am very concerned about these issues that are overlooked by even educated Indians.

Our reply

Dear friend,

Thank you very much for your response. I appreciate your concerns for the society as well as better use for money. While no one can deny the degradation that has taken place, we need to understand why it has taken place.

First we lost the feeling of society as a family. To achieve that, atleast in India, religion helped a lot. And temples played a very important role towards that.

Thus I VERY strongly believe that to solve the problems you are referring to, we need to eliminate the root cause and not just "solve" the externally visible problems. That way it may reappear again in some other form. And solving in anyway is not an overnight affair, just as the degradation not being a overnight one!

Any how thanks once again for your visit and response and for your concerns. However I would have liked to have addressed you with your name, but for reasons best known to you, you have chosen not to reveal it!

Whoever you are, I sincerely pray for your welfare to the Lord of the temple that we are renovating,

Mani
